In 2022, Anthony Telfer observed the differing levels of sportsmanship in cricket, specifically noting a contrast between veteran's cricket and other game tiers. This led him to introduce the concept of the "Spirit of Cricket." Working alongside cricket administrators, players, and umpires in Australia, Telfer successfully promoted this idea through various means, such as creating a logo, the Spirit of Cricket Preamble, and organizing events like the O50's Australian National Championships. During these championships, a Spirit of Cricket award was presented to exemplify the principles of fair play. In March 2023, the Spirit of Cricket expanded its global reach by partnering with the South African Veterans Cricket Association for the Over 50 World Cup. As part of this collaboration, red socks were introduced as a symbol of camaraderie. This initiative further enhanced the recognition and dissemination of the Spirit of Cricket among cricket enthusiasts worldwide. Subsequently, the focus shifted towards younger boys and girls involved in the sport. An educational curriculum was developed to emphasize the values of integrity, respect, and fair play. This curriculum aims to nurture future cricket stars who embody the Spirit of Cricket and become ambassadors for sportsmanship within their local clubs.
